A look inside my favorite brands… and how I’m staying healthy and happy.

It was time for me to focus on my health and learn what self-care really meant. I was in the funk of all funks and needed some help getting out of it. Luckily, I knew exactly what friend to turn to to get a better understanding of my wellness and where I was coming up short. And then we came up with a plan.

Wellness: Pilates, Massage, Foam Rolling, and Yoga

I know this seems like a lot, but if you can do it all in one place — and have a whole team dedicated to your wellness — it’s the way to go. I love working out, but not just dedicating an hour to a gym. I garden, build stuff, hike, etc. So, in the end, I want to be stronger and most importantly I want to be doing my everyday activities the right way. I’m 42 and think I just learned how to properly walk and bend over down… I owe my increased strength to One. Physical Therapy and Wellness. And to a very special badass woman behind this brand that has been in my corner as my biggest fan (thank you and major hugs, Jen). And thank you, Mary!

Acupuncture: For the mind, body, and soul? Yes.

This is something I wish I would have tried 20 years ago. I’m only about 6 weeks into working with Dr. Wendy Kumar, and I have absolutely loved every minute of it. Not because it’s easy. Acupuncture at Elements of Well-Being is actually one of the most challenging things I’ve done because it's changing me as I dig in. Before starting, I had no idea how therapeutic it would be. It’s like I didn’t think there would be talking or that I would learn anything, but rather just get stuck with needles. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Dr. Kumar is one of the kindest and most beautiful women I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know and work with.

Working with a Nutritionist

Jen, the badass from above, introduced me to Liz Renaut of Renaut Functional Nutrition. Holy cow! Let’s just say that I thought I was a much better eater than I was. We just completed our initial consultation and I am about to start a testing cycle that was recommended. A cool thing about this brand is that Liz picked me to help her launch it so it’s also my latest brand development, photography, and website project. What’s even cooler than that? We’ve become great friends!

Eating Whole + Juicing

Let’s just say I wouldn’t survive without Rutabaga. My friends would agree with this statement so I don’t think it’s too bold. Eating whole foods make sense (just ask Liz! :) and they make it delicious. How? I have no idea, but my guess is that the couple behind this brand, Stacey and Jim, sprinkles a double dash of love into every single recipe. I drink a juice daily. Everyday. And most days, I hit it up for a mid-morning Green Protein Blend. It’s my go-to happy place!

I was so used to going it alone for my fitness and self-care but am glad I changed that — I deserved it, and so do you. Have a beautiful summer!
